Rose Hill North Carolina is home to the world’s largest frying pan.
And honestly, you kind of have to take their word for it, because at least five other towns in America have stood up over the years and said the same thing.
Long Beach, Washington has one.
Pennsboro, West Virginia has one.
A few others tried to claim the title somewhere along the way.
But what they do actually have in Rose Hill is the largest functional frying pan, the kind that isn’t just for show, the kind that has held real heat and cooked real chicken for real people since 1963.
It sits right next to the fire department, and once a year, the whole town gathers around it for the North Carolina Poultry Jubilee. By 10:30am, folks are already lined up for plates, fried chicken that was seasoned overnight, hand-breaded, and cooked by the firemen themselves.
The pan is huge, sure. Fifteen feet across and weighing two tons.
But what’s bigger is the sense of community that rises up around it.
You stand there long enough and the smell of fried chicken settles over the whole town, a kind of unofficial welcome sign that says,
“You’re in Rose Hill now, pull up a plate.”
And while other towns might compete for the title, this is the one everybody else is quietly jealous of.
Not because of the steel or the size.
But because Rose Hill still uses theirs the way it was meant to be used, to bring people together.
